We work with all major caravan fridge brands, including Dometic, Thetford, Truma, Aircommand, Bushman and Engel, and we’re licensed for warranty work. Caravan Refrigeration Repairs & Servicing
We understand how important your fridge is when you’re living or travelling in a van. Whether you’re chasing sunsets up north or heading bush for the weekend, your fridge needs to keep up with the ride. That’s why we offer caravan refrigeration installs, servicing and fault repairs that are done properly — no shortcuts, no guesswork.
We repair compressor and absorption fridges, replace worn parts, reseal doors and check full cooling function across all modes — 12V, 240V and gas. If your fridge is struggling off-grid, cutting out while driving or failing to switch power sources, we’ll figure out why.
Our team offers mobile servicing depending on your setup and location, and we also take drop-offs at our workshop in Caloundra. We’re used to tight spaces, tough access and finding fixes on the fly — so your food stays cold, and your travels stay stress-free.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my caravan fridge work on 12V while driving?
This is a common issue and usually comes down to wiring or voltage drop. Your vehicle may not be supplying enough power through the Anderson plug, or the cable gauge could be too small to carry the required current. Faulty fuses, poor earth connections or isolator switches can also cause dropouts.
A technician can run voltage tests, inspect wiring and check if the fridge’s DC elements are functioning as they should.
What’s the difference between compressor and absorption fridges?
Compressor fridges use a motor to compress refrigerant and cool the unit — they run well on 12V and are efficient in hot weather. Absorption fridges (also called 3-way fridges) work on gas, 12V or 240V and don’t have moving parts. They’re quieter but can struggle in high temperatures or off-level setups.
If you travel off-grid a lot, compressor fridges tend to perform better, but absorption units offer flexibility for powered sites and gas-only camping.
Can I replace my absorption fridge with a compressor fridge?
Yes — but it’s not a straight swap. Compressor fridges often require different ventilation, power input and mounting clearances. You’ll also need to ensure your battery and charging setup can support the new fridge, especially if you’re running solar or driving long stretches.
A licensed tech can help you make the switch safely and get the most out of the upgrade without compromising cooling or battery life.
Why is my caravan fridge cold on 240V but not gas or 12V?
This usually means the fridge’s 240V heating element is working, but the gas or 12V components aren’t.
On gas, check that the burner is clean and igniting properly — spiderwebs and soot are common causes of failure. On 12V, the issue could be a blown fuse, poor wiring or a failed heating element.
A proper inspection will pinpoint which system is failing and how to fix it.
