Repairs & Servicing for Portable Fridges

We know how much people rely on their portable fridges for camping, road trips and everyday travel. That’s why we don’t muck around with half-fixes or guesswork. Our team is licensed and experienced in both electrical and refrigeration systems, so we repair these units properly — whether it’s a compressor issue or a worn-out power socket.

We offer full diagnostics and test your unit across all modes: 240V, 12V and battery setups. If it’s still under warranty, we’ll process it with the manufacturer. If it’s not, we’ll give you a clear explanation and fair options. We also carry common parts in stock for quick turnarounds on popular models.

Our workshop in Caloundra is easy to access, and we’ll give you a heads-up if there’s any delay. From grey nomads to weekend campers, we’ve helped all kinds of travellers keep their food cold and their trips stress-free.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why does my portable fridge work on 240V but not 12V?

This usually points to a power supply or wiring issue. The 12V plug or cable may be damaged, the fuse might be blown, or the fridge’s 12V power board could be faulty. It’s also possible that your vehicle’s socket isn’t supplying consistent voltage — especially if it’s not wired for constant power.

A technician can test both the fridge and the power source to isolate the issue and avoid further damage.

  • How do I know if my portable fridge compressor has failed?

A failed compressor can show up as no cooling, loud humming, clicking without startup, or tripping your power source. Some fridges also show error codes when the compressor is faulty.

If your unit’s drawing power but not cooling, or it stops shortly after turning on, it’s best to have it professionally inspected. Continuing to run it could cause more damage to the control board or wiring.

  • Can portable fridge seals be replaced?

Yes. Over time, door or lid seals can wear, crack or lose their grip, which causes cold air to escape and forces the fridge to work harder. This leads to power drain and poor cooling.

We can replace seals on most common models and check the lid alignment and hinge condition while we’re at it. A new seal can often bring an older fridge back to life.

  • Are portable fridges worth repairing?

In many cases, yes — especially if it’s a quality brand like Engel or Dometic. Repairs are often cheaper than replacing the unit, and many parts (like fans, power sockets or control boards) can be swapped out.

Older fridges with steel cases or reliable compressors are often worth keeping going. However, very old models or cheap units may not be cost-effective to fix — a technician can advise you either way.
